West Ham are still keen to sign Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse this summer, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
The 28-year-old midfielder has played his entire club football at St Mary’s but he could leave this summer after the Saints dropped down to the Championship.
The Hammers are looking to add depth and quality in midfield, as David Moyes needs to replenish the void with Declan Rice’s departure from the club is now only a matter of time.
Ward-Prowse has established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the country and he will love to continue in the Premier League, in order to get selected for the national side.
He is known for his set-piece abilities, and even Gareth Southgate hailed him as “exceptional” last year. With his wealth of experience and quality, he would add a new dimension to the side.
However, Southampton do not want to lose their talisman skipper cheaply.
West Ham and Fulham are both looking to sign him, as per The Mail, but they want the Saints to drop their current valuation of around £40m.
Southampton could also lose Romeo Lavia who is being chased by a host of clubs including Liverpool and Chelsea.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Ward-Prowse as well, but they are not pursuing him anymore, following the arrivals of Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
As it stands, the Hammers are really keen to land the England midfielder but they would be able to wrap up a deal for him at around £40m.
