Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has told the club he wants Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou to join them this summer, according to a report from TuttomercatoWeb.
Sevilla star Bounou has emerged as one of the world’s best goalkeepers in recent months, leading his club to the UEFA Europa League title with an assured performance in the final, and Morocco to a fourth-place finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Aston Villa are interested in signing the goalkeeper, who is available for a transfer this summer as a result of his Spanish club’s financial woes. The 32-year-old Moroccan goalkeeper is liked by Emery, who previously worked with him in Seville.
Bounou has turned down an approach from Saudi Arabia to move to the Gulf nation as he intends to continue playing in Europe.
Aston Villa interested in Yassine Bounou move
Aston Villa will be a good place for Bounou to continue his sojourn in Europe as the manager has indicated that he wants the Moroccan shot-stopper at the club this summer.
Villa are prepared to lose first-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez this summer following his admission of his intent to continue his career at a higher level than Aston Villa once he gets an opportunity. They will look to replace him with Bounou, who will be available for a reasonable price from Sevilla.
Bounou kept seven clean sheets in 36 appearances for Sevilla in the 2022-23 season and kept three clean sheets in six appearances for Morocco at the World Cup. He is regarded as the best African goalkeeper in world football, at present.
