Czech international Tomas Cvancara will join Borussia Monchengladbach from Sparta Praha, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Cvancara spent the last season and a half with Czech giants Sparta, who won the league title last season. In the title-winning campaign, the 22-year-old striker found the net 12 times, adding three assists across 24 games. He also found the net another three times in four Czech Cup games.
Despite his young age, Cvancara has been through multiple clubs. He has played at the lower level of Czech football, plus Empoli’s U19s. His first really good season came with Jablonec in 2021/22. Then, he scored nine goals in 21 outings, prompting Sparta to sign him in January 2022.
Now, the young Czech joins Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach. The Foals lost striker Marcus Thuram to Internazionale, with Cvancara as the replacement. Thuram joined the Italian giants on a free transfer.
Thuram is not the only attacking player that has left the club this summer. German international Jonas Hofmann also departed, joining fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen. Having lost two important sources for goals, Gladbach have to act quickly to find suitable replacements.
Monchengladbach finished 10th in the Bundesliga last season, once again missing out on Europe. Cvancara will have quite the challenge on his hands as he will have to play his part in spearheading Gladbach back into Europe.
While they now have Tomas Cvancara, the club is still looking for more reinforcements up top. That could come in the form of Gio Reyna, as the American is rumoured to be on Gladbach’s radar. They could still lose highly-rated midfielder Manu Kone, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.
