Indian Legend Sunil Gavaskar said that the teams will take time to get acquainted with the Impact Rule.
Sunil Gavaskar thinks the BCCI’s new regulation will significantly affect the competition. The former cricketer-turned-commentator thinks it would take some time for all the sides to get used to this new rule.
“You need some time to understand new rules and acclimatize with new playing conditions. The same will be the case with all ten teams in the TATA IPL 2023. They will need some time to ace it,” The 73-year-old told Star Sports.
Since the day it was announced, everyone has been interested in the new “Impact Player” regulation that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is implementing in the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Impact rule
In the first game of the IPL 2023 between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings, the new rule was observed being applied (CSK).
Tushar Deshpande, a seamer, took the place of CSK batsman Ambati Rayudu as the tournament’s first-ever impact player. While Kane Williamson was out with an injury, GT sent Sai Sudharsan as their impact player.
After experimenting with the “Impact Player” rule at the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 event in October, the BCCI decided to implement it in the 2023 IPL. That implies that each side may use 12 players on any given day. The usual cricket rule has been 11 players on each side, however, an additional player can enter the pitch as an “Impact Player.”
This rule will be game-changing in the Indian Premier League. It will be interesting to see how this rule pans out as the tournament progresses.
