Stephy Mavididi has drawn the interest of Leicester City, among other clubs as the winger could leave Montpellier this summer, reports Fabrizio Romano.
Mavididi joined Montpellier in the summer of 2020 from Juventus. Since then, the dual national has played 98 times for the club, scoring 21 times with five assists.
As he is in the last year of his contract, Montpellier are willing to sell him.
Mavididi played for Southend United and Arsenal in his youth. He never appeared for the latter’s first team, as he was loaned to several lower-tier English clubs.
Leicester join race to sign Stephy MavididiÂ
Despite relegation from the Premier League, Leicester are among the teams pushing to sign Mavididi.
The Foxes have already lost several quality players in the off-season, including James Maddison. Seeing that Mavididi is a winger, the 25-year-old would be an ideal replacement for Maddison.
Two other clubs are said to be monitoring the situation surrounding Mavididi are Club Brugge and Lille. The Belgian side are the outgoing champions, having finished fourth last season.
Having just lost Noa Lang to PSV Eindhoven, a replacement will be needed at Janbreydelstadion. Mavididi could be the ideal replacement.
As for Lille, they will return to Europe next season, qualifying for the Europa Conference League playoff round. They are set to lose several quality players such as Jonathan David and Jonathan Bamba. Thus, Mavididi’s addition would be of good use.
Per Transfermarkt, Mavididi’s current price tag is €6m. While he is going into the final year of his contract, that number could increase a bit depending on the competition for the winger.
