Ross Wilson leaves Rangers to join Nottingham Forest

Ross Wilson has left Rangers to join Nottingham Forest, the club have confirmed

Forest have confirmed on Wednesday night (12 April) that the former Ibrox-sporting director have joined them in the role of chief football officer.

Wilson hasn’t been a popular figure among the Rangers fans, and he was under huge scrutiny in recent times for his business capabilities.

However, Wilson thinks that he is leaving the club in great hands. According to Scottish Daily Express, the Midlands club have thrashed out a six-figure compensation package with the Ibrox giants.

Wilson will have a bigger role at City Ground than he currently has at Rangers. He will take control of recruitment and his experience could be invaluable having previously worked for Southampton, Huddersfield and Watford.

Ross Wilson exit – not a blow for Rangers

Wilson’s departure would leave a void no doubt but he has been a failure at Ibrox.

He will be always remembered for his failure to recruit properly after the Gers won the SPFL title in 2020-21 which allowed Celtic to dominate once again.

Reaching the Europa League final under Giovanni van Bronckhorst could be seen as a major achievement but Wilson’s overall role in recruitment has been a disaster.

Moreover, he leaves Beale in a situation where three key players – Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Jack – could leave the club as free agents.

There are loads of players who will enter the final year of their deals and no decision has been made yet over the future of Malik Tillman.

Should Rangers will look for another sporting director? Will they go after someone who can be their head of recruitment?

The summer transfer window is vital for the Bears and their next step remains unclear. But fans will be happy with the news that the club have managed to get a decent fee for someone who failed horribly in his role.
