Villarreal striker Nicolas Jackson is set to join Chelsea imminently, transfer insider Dean Jones has told Sportsbuffer.
Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that the Blues have concluded a deal to sign the 22-year-old striker and it seems he is on his way to Stamford Bridge.
Signing a new striker is a priority for the Blues. Romelu Lukaku, who spent the last season on loan at Inter Milan, is facing an uncertain future, and he is likely to be sold.
Jackson enjoyed a fantastic 2022/23 season for the Yellow Submarines and he would cost around £30m. The Blues have already reached an agreement to sign him, and the striker will sign a long-term deal at the London club.
What Jones has said about Nicolas Jackson
Jones says that at some point Chelsea may feel that they need to sign experienced players, but for now, they will look to attract players with youth and potential.
The Blues have just let eight players leave the club, with Mason Mount soon to his on his way to joining Manchester United and replacing them won’t be easy.
Speaking exclusively to Sportsbuffer, Jones said, “Nicolas Jackson is going to be announced imminently but there will also be one or two others to come.
“It’s going to be interesting to see if Chelsea continue to profile these young players or if they accept that – at some stage – they are going to need to but someone with more experience.
“They have just let eight players leave who have almost 1,000 Premier League games between them. Replacing that with youth and potential is not easy.”
Jackson will join Christopher Nkunku as the club’s attacking reinforcements this summer, and he will be seen as a smart addition.
He scored 13 goals and provided five assists for Villarreal last season and earned rave reviews from pundits for his exploits.
Chelsea managed only 38 goals last season and this is one area where Mauricio Pochettino needs to bolster. The Blues have been linked with a move for Victor Osimhen, and it remains to be seen if they make an audacious move for him as well.
