Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio has agreed to join French champions PSG, according to a report from David Ornstein.
Spanish forward Asensio ran down his contract at Real Madrid and made himself available for a free transfer, sparking rumours of where he could end up. The 27-year-old spent seven years at the Santiago Bernabeu before deciding to leave the club.
According to Ornstein, Asensio has agreed to sign a long-term deal with French champions PSG for a salary of €10m per year. The winger will join Les Parisiens for free after the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, and the deal will be made official after Real Madrid’s final La Liga game of the season.
Asensio has ignored advances from Arsenal and Aston Villa in the Premier League to move to the French Ligue 1, joining compatriots Sergio Ramos, Fabian Ruiz, Juan Bernat and Carlos Soler at the club.
PSG looking to strengthen squad with Marco Asensio signing
PSG won a record 11th Ligue 1 title this season, making them the outright most successful team in France. Their season is hardly considered a success as they failed to go beyond the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, necessitating wholesale additions to the squad.

PSG are resigned to losing Lionel Messi this summer and will look to replace him with Asensio, who plays in the same position. The club was close to signing Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech in January to provide attacking depth.
PSG is expected to go through major changes this summer, with manager Christophe Galtier also unsafe after a below-par season. Club director Luis Campos will look to strengthen the squad to ensure they can challenge the best teams in Europe.
Signing an experienced player like Asensio means the club is looking to add quality and know-how to their squad ahead of another push for the Champions League next season.
