Manchester United has turned to Brighton and Hove Albion’s midfielder Moises Caicedo after their talks for Mason Mount hit an impasse, as per Daily Mail.
Chelsea have rejected three bids from United already, but the Red Devils have not left negotiations and their £55m offer is still valid.
However, they won’t wait forever and are looking at other targets.
Erik Ten Hag is determined to add depth to his midfield, and alternative targets have already been compiled, with Caicedo on top of the list.
According to CBS Sport journalist Ben Jacobs, a fee in the region of £70m plus £10m in bonuses could lure the Ecuadorian international away from Brighton.
Caicedo’s exceptional performance at Brighton last season has helped them secure a spot in European football for the first time.
Roberto de Zerbi told Caicedo he would allow him to leave if an important offer come on the way, and it remains to be seen if United come up with an official bid in the next few weeks.
Chelsea, in particular, have shown strong interest in acquiring him as a high-quality replacement for N’Golo Kante.
Manchester United set to tempt Moises Caicedo
Manchester United can offer Caicedo an appealing opportunity to play in the champions league, and which could be a major pulling factor.
Meanwhile, Mount is approaching the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and has made it clear that he will not be extending his stay with his childhood club
It is unlikely that United will sign both Mount and Caicedo, but they will certainly add a couple of midfielders to their ranks this summer.
