Manchester United are nearing an agreement with Fiorentina over a move for combative midfielder Sofyan Amrabat this summer, as per Alfredo Pedulla.
The Red Devils enjoyed a successful 2022-23 season in which they sealed a return to the UEFA Champions League and won the Carabao Cup, and the club is keen to build on that success by adding quality players to their squad this summer.
Manchester United have identified Fiorentina star Amrabat as their ideal midfield addition and are prepared to offer around £30m for the experienced midfielder. The Red Devils are looking to complete the sale of Brazilian midfielder Fred before moving decisively for Amrabat.
Amrabat is open to leaving Florence this summer, having first sought a move away from the club in January. The Morocco international was also a target for Barcelona, who have since signed Oriol Romeu.
Manchester United set to sign Sofyan Amrabat
Manchester United are searching for quality competition and a deputy for Casemiro, and manager Erik ten Hag has decided to move for Fiorentina star Amrabat. The Dutch manager is familiar with the 26-year-old, having worked with him in his time as Utrecht manager.
Amrabat has been a consistent performer for Fiorentina, but his performance for Morocco at their historic 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign is what brought him to the fore of European football. He was arguably the best defensive midfielder in the tournament and helped Morocco become the first African nation to reach the semifinals.
Manchester United have already signed Andre Onana and Mason Mount, and are in talks for Rasmus Hojlund. The Red Devils are set to strengthen their spine ahead of an assault on the Premier League title.
