Liverpool have rejected an opening bid from RB Leipzig for Fabio Carvalho, as per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that the 20-year-old is likely to leave Anfield in the summer transfer window, although he has been impressed with his work ethic.
Carvalho arrived from Fulham last summer and failed to make a big impact. He netted the 98th-minute winner against Newcastle at Anfield but has overall struggled for game time.
Romano claims that the Reds don’t want the player to leave on a permanent deal rather they could be open to a buy-back option clause into the deal.
Transfer expert Dean Jones wrote on Twitter that four clubs have expressed interest to sign Carvalho on loan, and he thinks that Liverpool are more likely to sanction a temporary exit.
“RB Leipzig had opening bid for Fabio Carvalho turned down by Liverpool, as Reds don’t want the player to leave on permanent deal,” wrote Romano.
“Liverpool could be open to a buy back option clause into the deal, as revealed yesterday; clubs will discuss that soon.”
Fabio Carvalho set for loan exit?
Carvalho started the 2022-23 campaign strongly, making 10 of Liverpool’s first 11 appearances, although most of them have come from the bench.
However, in the second half of the campaign, he really struggled for game time, and sending him away on loan looks like a smart move from the Reds.
Klopp confirmed that the Portuguese could go out on loan. The Reds boss praised him heavily but said the move didn’t work out well for him.
“I think there is a possibility Fabio could go on loan, but we will see. This was not the best year of his career, his young career,” Klopp said.
“No player has impressed me more than Fabio, that’s the truth. This very talented boy came here with big dreams and big expectations and it didn’t work out. His work ethic will give him a fantastic career.”
The Portuguese youngster is a highly-talented player but somehow the move didn’t work out for him. It seems he is not in Klopp’s immediate plans but at the same time, the club are reluctant to lose him permanently as well.
