Inter Milan have approached Chelsea with a second official bid of £25.7m for wantaway striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, as per Fabrizio Romano.
Chelsea are actively looking to sell Belgian striker Lukaku after he spent last season on loan at Inter Milan. The English club turned down offers from the Italian club to take him on loan again this season, preferring an outright sale of the 30-year-old.
Inter saw a first bid of £21.4m rejected by the English side as they slapped a price tag of £34m on the striker, who was approached by Saudi outfit Al-Hilal over a move this summer. The 2023 UEFA Champions League finalists have now submitted a second official bid of £25.7m to re-sign the striker permanently.
Chelsea are considering the Italian club’s offer as they are keen to end the saga with Lukaku which has raged on for nearly two years.
Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea relationship close to dissolution
Chelsea have given Lukaku permission to resume for preseason training on July 17th, same with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Hakim Ziyech, both of whom are expected to leave the club. The club hopes that the futures of these players will be clarified before their resumption date.
Lukaku has made it clear that he does not intend to return to London for preseason despite new manager Mauricio Pochettino openly stating that he expects him to join up with the squad.
Chelsea are prepared to take a significant financial hit with respect to Lukaku, who joined them just two years ago for £97.5m. The Blues are happy to take the loss as it will take his huge wages off their bill.
