West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca could miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury, David Moyes has confirmed.
The Italian striker will undergo knee surgery on Saturday (15 April) and he will not only miss the clash against Arsenal but won’t feature again this season.
The 24-year-old joined the Hammers in the summer transfer window from Sassuolo on a big-money transfer fee, but he hasn’t been able to deliver as expected.
He has missed the last four games for the Hammers since last month’s international break. Initially, it was hoped that he would recover quickly, but now he is set to go under the knife.
It will be very surprising if we see Gianluca Scamacca again this season. Set to undergo surgery tomorrow. #WHUFC https://t.co/CcHcuuOzrs

“The only news is that Gianluca Scamacca is due to have an operation on his knee tomorrow, so we will be missing him,” said Moyes as quoted by Football London.
Gianluca Scamacca injury – massive blow
The news will come as a huge blow for the Hammers who are fighting for Premier League survival.
Scamacca has made 11 starts in the league this season and has managed three goals.
The Italy international was supposed to solve West Ham’s striking woes but he hasn’t been able to make any sort of impact.
The Hammers are 14th in the table and only three points above the drop zone. They are up against the Gunners in the London derby on Sunday and will look for a positive result after winning two Premier League games in a row.
In the absence of Scamacca, Michail Antonio is expected to lead the attacking line for the Hammers. Antonio – who was linked with a move away from the club in January – could become West Ham’s saviour now.
In other news, Manchester United are leading the race for Harry Kane.
