Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has been granted permission to not travel with the squad to Germany for preseason as he closes in on a move to Al-Ittihad, as per Fabrizio Romano. 

The Reds are prepared to commence their preseason camping in Germany ahead of the 2023-24 season, with new signings Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai due to make the trip with the team as they prepare for the new season.

Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad placed a bid of £40m for Brazil international Fabinho to join them this summer, and they have reached an agreement with the versatile midfielder on personal terms.

Liverpool are keen to add younger legs in their midfield and are willing to sacrifice some of their older players, with the likes of Naby Keita and James Milner gone, and Jordan Henderson nearing an exit to Al-Ettifaq. The club is looking at signing younger players like Ryan Gravenberch, Romeo Lavia and Khephren Thuram this summer.

Fabinho moved to Liverpool from AS Monaco for around £43.7m in 2018 and has been an integral member of Jurgen Klopp’s side ever since, making 219 appearances for the Reds. The Brazilian ace is prepared to move to Saudi, where he will form a formidable midfield pairing with former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.

Al-Ittihad have secured deals for three top quality players this summer in Kante, Karim Benzema and Jota as they look to retain their league crown and challenge in the FIFA Club World Cup. Fabinho will be a quality addition to the team, and will strengthen them in the middle of the park.
