Denmark who didn’t have the best performance in their game against China managed to get a 1-0 win thanks to a late goal from Amalie Vangsgaard who came in as a sub and played the hero.
The game being played in Western Australia at the Perth Rectangular Stadium saw a game where the Chinese had more chances to score but couldn’t beat the Danish keeper Lene Christensen.
It started 33 seconds into the game when Rikke Sevecka’s throw-in went off a head in the box and on target but the Chinese keeper Xu Huan made her first save of the game. Seven minutes later China had their first serious chance when Linyan Zhang had a shot on target that was saved by Christensen.
In the 49th minute, China kept pushing for the first goal and got another shot on target but again were denied by Christensen who made another crucial save to keep the game scoreless.
Finally, in the 89th minute Vangsgaard who had come into the game off the bench managed to get a header from just inside the box into the back of the net to stun the Chinese and secure a late win.
The win puts Denmark in second place in Group D behind England with three points who they will face in their next game on Friday, July 28th while China will face Haiti.
