Chelsea are holding out for a fee of around £68m for star midfielder Mason Mount after he reached an agreement with Manchester United over a move, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues are resigned to losing academy graduate Mount after failing to agree on a contract extension with the 24-year-old midfielder.
The England international has been the subject of interest from top Premier League sides, including the Red Devils, Arsenal and Liverpool.
United are leading the race to sign the midfielder after manager Erik ten Hag made him a priority target ahead of next season. The Red Devils have agreed personal terms with him in recent weeks ahead of a move.
Chelsea received an initial offer of £55m from the Red Devils for the midfielder but have rejected the bid and are holding out for at least £68m, as revealed by Romano.
Mason Mount almost certain to join Manchester United
Mount is the Red Devils’ priority to add creativity to their midfield ahead of a season back among Europe’s elite in the UEFA Champions League. The midfielder will be a quality addition to Ten Hag’s team due to his undeniable quality.

The 24-year-old midfielder is keen on a move to Old Trafford after negotiations over a new contract at Chelsea hit a snag. Thiago Silva has recently shared his reaction to the ongoing saga, which gives a strong hint that Mount might be leaving the club.
He has been in contact with the Red Devils and has been informed of the club’s project ahead of signing.
Chelsea remain in negotiations with United over the highly-rated midfielder but will hold out for a fee they find suitable to sell him. The Blues will not sell him for less despite his contract expiring in 2024.
