Chelsea have held negotiations for several days for Montpellier forward, Elye Wahi, according to L’equipe.Â
The 20-year-old France u21 international was one of the breakout stars in Ligue 1 last season, logging an impressive 19 goals and six assists in 33 league games for La Paillade last season.
His performances have drawn interest from clubs across Europe including Bournemouth, Union Berlin, Lazio and Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Montpellier youth academy product has a contract until 2025 but it is increasingly likely the Frenchman will leave the Stade de la Mosson this summer.
Bundesliga outfit, Frankfurt was leading the race for his signature regardless of whether Randal Kolo Muani is sold or not but the race has become tougher as Chelsea entered negotiations for the striker.
L’Equipe claim that the Blues will bid for the young striker in the coming days.
Montpellier are holding on for €30m fee which won’t be out of Chelsea’s reach after recouping over €182m in player sales this summer.
The Blues have already signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal and Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.
Additionally, the recovery of Armando Broja after a long-term injury still provides the Blues with more options up front.
However, they look to continue their capture of the best promising young talents in Europe and it’s no surprise the blues have earmarked Wahi who is one of Europe’s most clinical finishers.
The Blues were lackluster in front of goal last season, scoring 38 goals in the premier league.
They’re looking to change the tides under new manager, Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues hierarchy are willing to provide the new manager with every possible on-pitch and off-pitch personnel to revive the Blues attack and Wahi has become a potential option for the Blues attack.
