CF Montreal beat Charlotte FC to snap four game winless streak

CF Montreal beat Charlotte FC 2-0 on Saturday night at Saputo Stadium in Montreal thanks to Kwadwo Mahala Opuko who scored his first goal for the club while Chinonso Offor scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

It didn’t take long for the offense to get going for Montreal as in the fifth minute Ariel Lassiter had a great chance when he finished a give-and-go with Bryce Duke and got the first shot on target of the game forcing Charlotte keeper Kristijan Kahlina to make his first save.

24 minutes later the newly acquired Ghanian Opuko managed to get a cross from Duke that bounced off Kahlina to him and managed to score to the delight of the home fans in attendance.

Two minutes later Chinonso Offor scored to make it 2-0 when Joel Waterman made a huge long pass to him and he went in on Kahlina and managed to beat him as the keeper attempted to come out of his net.

The second half is where things calmed down and up 2-0, CF Montreal attempted to keep the clean sheet alive while the visitors attempted to get something on target but couldn’t finish in the final third.

The win is the seventh clean sheet for CF Montreal keeper Jonathan Sirois who bounced back after conceding three goals on Wednesday against Chicago and went back to being a wall in the net.

CF Montreal will now focus its attention on the Leagues Cup which for them starts on July 22nd when they will host Pumas UNAM a team from Mexico City that plays in Liga MX. Mathieu Choiniere will first head to DC to play in the MLS All-Star game against Arsenal on Wednesday, July 19th.

The team will be back in MLS action on Sunday, August 20th when they travel to Toronto to face TFC at BMO Field in another edition of the Canadian Classic.
