Roma are finalizing a move for striker Eldor Shomurodov to join Cagliari on loan, as per Gianluca Di Marzio.
Shomurodov spent the first half of last season on the bench for the Giallorossi before moving to Spezia on loan.
The deal between Roma and the Cagliari is at the final stages based on a loan with the option to buy and is expected to reach successful completion soon, according to Corriere Dello Sport.
The Uzbekistan international became Roma’s third most expensive transfer after joining from Genoa for an €18 million fee, as per Transfermarkt.
The 28-year-old’s stint at the Stadio Olimpico has been rather disappointing after he turned in three goals and four assists in limited action during his first season with the club.
There were high hopes for Uzbekistan when he first joined the club in 2021. He arrived in the Italian capital with huge potential and was viewed as a long-term, first-choice striker for the Giallorossi.
He possesses all the physical traits and tools to be a devastating presence in attack. But he hasn’t utilized his abilities since he joined Roma.
After achieving promotion back to the Italian Serie A, Cagliari are looking to add reinforcements to their squad this summer and have set their sight on Shomurodov.
The Rossoblu are now nearing an agreement with Roma for the transfer of the striker who is deemed surplus to requirements at Roma.
The striker is also seeking redemption after a disappointing season and will hope to find his form at Cagliari under the tutelage of Claudio Ranieri.
