Arsenal are interested in signing Feyenoord captain Orkun Kokcu as a replacement for Granit Xhaka, according to journalist Rudy Galetti.

Swiss midfielder Xhaka is set to exit the Emirates Stadium and sign for Bayer Leverkusen this summer. The club have identified a number of targets, including Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan, and Kokcu is one of those targets.

Kokcu has enjoyed a brilliant spell with Feyenoord, captaining the side to the Eredivisie title at just 22 years of age while playing a starring role for the team. The Turkish midfielder is contracted to the Dutch club until 2025.

Liverpool and Tottenham also said to be interested in signing the Turkish international.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is usually very particular about what he wants from his players in their positions, and this has translated to improved performances and a title push this season.

Xhaka was one of the Gunners’ most important players and leaders on the pitch, and the Swiss international excelled in his role as a left-sided central midfielder. The 30-year-old contributed seven goals and seven assists for the side in the league, an impressive tally.

Kokcu is more naturally attack-minded than Xhaka and finished the season with 12 goals and four assists for his side as they won the league and reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Europa League.

Arsenal can count on Kokcu for quality and leadership, making him perfectly suited to what they need to replace Xhaka. Given his age, too, it is evident that the midfielder will excel at the club.
