Arsenal plan second bid for Jurrien Timber

Arsenal are expected to bid again for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano

Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his defensive options ahead of the new season, and Timber has emerged as one of the main targets.

Ajax rejected Arsenal’s opening offer of around £30m and it would take an offer in the region of £50m to lure him away.

The 15-cap Netherlands international dreams of a move to the Premier League, and he really wants to join the Gunners this summer.

Meanwhile, Romano says that a deal for Kai Havertz is as good as done. He will join from Chelsea for a £65m fee and will become their first signing of the summer.

Arteta is a big fan of the German midfielder and his work rate and intelligence make him a great fit for the side.

Jurrien Timber – class signing for the Gunners

Timber’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium will provide the Gunners with the much-needed squad depth as he’ll provide competition and cover in defense.

His versatility will also prove to be a valuable asset to the Gunners as he can operate in the right center back as well as right back.

Arteta will be encouraged by the fact that Timber personally wants a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

An improved bid close to £50m should be enough to secure his signing, and as per Romano, the Gunners will make an offer shortly.
