Alan Shearer has showered praise on four Manchester City players as Pep Guardiola’s side won 4-1 against Liverpool on Saturday (1 April) in the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead, but City staged a brilliant comeback with Julian Alvarez restoring parity before half-time.

After the break, City looked unbeatable as they piled misery on “dreadful” Liverpool with goals coming from Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish.

Shearer, the popular Match of the Day pundit, has praised the likes of Grealish, De Bruyne, John Stones and Riyad Mahrez, hailing them as “magnificent”.

Title challenge and top four race 

For the first time this season, City have registered four wins in a row in the Premier League and they appear to have hit the form at the right time.

Arsenal are still leading the table by a handsome margin but City have the quality and experience to close the gap with the Gunners.

It doesn’t look like that there will be any big difference to the league table at the top this week, as the Gunners are leading by 3-0 (at the time of writing) against Leeds United.

Mahrez has been outstanding throughout the game. He kept Andy Robertson under pressure and created some fabulous chances.

But this has to be Grealish’s best performance of the season. He simply toyed with Trent Alexander-Arnold and deservedly got the goal.

City paid a massive fee to sign Grealish from Aston Villa back in 2021 and he is finally showing his true worth.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are struggling badly and they need to improve a lot to get into the top-four position.
