Alan Shearer raves about Everton duo Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dwight McNeil

Alan Shearer has picked Everton duo Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dwight McNeil in his Premier League team of the week

The Toffees moved out of the relegation zone with a thumping 5-1 victory against Brighton away from home when nobody expected them to even get a draw.

Everton have been really poor all season, especially away from home, but Sean Dyche’s side produced a spectacular performance with Doucoure and McNeil running the show.

Doucoure scored the first two goals for the Toffees to lift the away fans. McNeil also scored twice and his other attempt at goal took a deflection off the goalkeeper into the net.

The BBC Match of the pundit has hailed McNeil as “unplayable”. He was also full of praise for Doucoure saying the midfielder was “superb” during the game.

“Stunned Brighton with the early opener and then hit a superb second. They’ve got to be the two most important goals of his career,” said Shearer about Doucoure.

Simply unplayable as he scored two goals and created two more. Everton needed big performances and he stepped up superbly,” he added about McNeil.

Can Everton avoid relegation?

The Toffees have now moved two points clear of Leicester and Leeds. They can breathe a sigh of relief but are not out of danger yet.

Sean Dyche’s side face Manchester City, Wolves and Bournemouth in their remaining three games, and they have to win at least two of them to secure Premier League safety.

Pep Guardiola’s side are looking unbeatable at the moment, and it will require a special effort to get something from this game at Goodison Park.

Doucoure has been rejuvenated under Dyche, but there is uncertainty over his long-term future at Merseyside.

He has a contract at the club until the end of the season and the Toffees have the option of extending his contract by 12 months.

While Dyche has hinted that he would love to trigger the option, the Mali international is not convinced about staying beyond the season.
